Bio:
If you were to ask a Chayan where she saw herself in five years… well, as a foreigner, you’re not bound to be asking a Chayan much of anything. You’re wary of the Republic of Chaya as a whole, if you know anything about its citizens at all. If a Chayan were to ask another Chayan the very same question… well, that simply wouldn’t happen. Such was the life of Sei, seemingly preordained to follow virtually the same path as that of her mother, and her mother’s mother, and her mother’s mother’s mother, and so on and so forth. The questions of anything else simply never entered her mind; she was fed a steady diet of the fruit of the Fire Tree as were all children of her nation, and took to the trades of both her mother (artist and clothing designer) and father (politician/debator) with studious obedience.
Alongside her every step of the way was her twin sister, An Saidra, until puberty when they lost the taste for the fruit of the Fire Tree and would now be receptive to its pollen, and the month-long frenzy that ensued with the blooming of these trees. Active participation in the season of Resplendent Fire drew much attention to the two girls, and to Saidra in particular, where an older man sought her out that was timid and gentle in the other fourteen months of the year, but a dangerously violent ‘lover’ when the fire trees bloomed.
Whatever exchange happened between Saidra and this man as the season came to a close was not seen by Sei, but it ended with the brilliant Exaltation of Saidra, a visitation upon the girl by the Unconquered Sun, and a broken and bloodied body for the man. Not that Sei knew what exactly had happened at all, but in that instant, the ‘unbreakable’ bond between her and her twin was gone, and though she felt as if something was missing, the feeling of an intruder, one that was ‘not Chayan’ was always stronger. It didn’t take long for the country to expel Saidra, and it would be the last that Sei saw of her twin as she left the country and never turned back.
A few years later, in the waning of the season of Resplendent Fire, the very same man visited upon Sei, herself, the very things that he had attempted with Saidra - but magnified - and the feeling of loss that she had felt with the initial absence of her sister came rushing back, but it wasn’t enough. He was too powerful, beating her thoroughly, and still… she was too enraged, far more than she could ever be when not under the pollen’s spell. It wasn’t until when he had her pinned to the wall, putting a heavy crush on her windpipe, that Luna herself dropped in, and Sei seemed to find breath where there couldn’t possibly be any, gaining her a greater measure of consciousness to be able to pay attention to this apparition that brought with her the brilliance of moonlight in mid-day. A brilliance that only became more with the forming of the symbol of the Changing Moon at the centre of her forehead, blinding her attacker.
What happened next was a blur, best described by the results: the man had little remaining for a face, and a ragged, clawed hole in his chest. Feathers were left behind, and if the citizens of her town were not so enthralled, there would have been a sight to capture: that of a magnificent owl streaking out of a building faster than any mortal could run. Over the coming weeks, the same happened for Sei that had happened for Saidra, and the newly exalted Lunar was edged out of the country, the very country that she had not left once in her entire life.
While the formerly Chayan girl was beyond lost, the Lunar Owl she had become was quickly taking the reins, and her journey began by heading south at random, being picked up and tattooed a few days later before she accidentally strayed a little further eastward than was safe, and brought into an unfamiliar place (as all places were, at the time), where her eyes would further be opened… while her dreams had already begun to bring her questions, and ideas of what she was and what she should be. Suffice to say, she ran, nay, flew with it, being brought up to speed on the state of Creation, and the world outside of the country she came from.
It has been nearly three years since that day, and Sei is a different girl now, a woman, so very different from the girl forced from the only life she had ever known, and her hungers (yes, plural) need feeding.
Regular. Feeding.
