Name: Akara
Age: 26
Exaltation/Caste: Eclipse Caste Solar
Affiliations: Chiaroscuro, Cult of Illuminated
Bio:
For some, the Solar exaltation is a shocking and powerful thing that completely turns their lives around. Others are lamentable rapscallions chosen for a single moment of greatness, who spend years simply trying to understand exactly why they were chosen for such a burden and honor as being the representation of the Unconquered Sun's will on Creation. For Akara, it was a natural extension of who he was, a glowing sign that the path he had chosen to walk was the proper one.
A glorious, shining gem on the southern edge of the sea, Chiaroscuro - the city of glass, the greatest port in the South and gateway to the Threshold - is not without its issues and problems. Despite that, since the First Age it has remained one of the most beautiful cities in all of Creation, a wonder without compare. Akara was born and raised here, a dutiful child in a family that supported itself primarily in civic service - her family was made of tax collectors, bureaucrats, and lawmen. Aside from becoming a dereth in her teen years, a Chiaroscuran status meaning that he had elected to, and would legally/socially be allowed to live as a man, Akara was perfectly normal in following his family's traditional career paths. He made a fine young lawman, capable and observant, but not without mercy... unless against corruption in his own ranks.
Technically, Chiaroscuro is a tributary of the Realm, although they don't often risk collecting on that allegiance these days. Akara, on patrol on a day which was notably only in a Wyld Hunt passing through, happened upon a theft - a Realm Dynast extorting 'taxes' from a shopkeeper, and from the looks of it, mostly just delighting in the power he had over a mere mortal man. The wise thing to do would have been to look the other way, as there was little to no chance that even if Akara could subdue the thief, that he'd suffer any sort of retribution. But what sort of law applies only to those without the power to flaunt it? Akara charged into the scene, shouted a demand for surrender that was answered with howling laughter, and promptly had the snot beaten out of him by a Terrestrial Exalted who didn't even have the courtesy to break a sweat in doing so.
A law that does not apply to the privileged is nearly as disgusting as a law that cannot, or is not, enforced. Akara forced himself to his feet and was pushed down again, and kicked for his trouble. The third time Akara tried to stand went much the same, with the exception that Akara was bodily thrown out of the window of the shop, landing in a disgraced pile in the street for having the temerity to apply the laws of men to the Dragon-Blooded.
The fourth time Akara stood, his brow blazed with the furious light of day, his crippling wounds not even afterthoughts. The Dynastic scion had half a moment to draw in breath - perchance to scream 'Anathema' - before Akara was upon him, his hand forcing the Dynast's jaw shut. In stilted, furious words, Akara outlined each and every crime he'd commit that day, and the time to be served. Once finished, he invited the Dynast to surrender to his punishment or be subdued. The Dynast swore to surrender and, by the power invested in Akara as a Lawgiver, the vow to submit was sealed.
To his eternal shame, the Dynast found himself unable to stop himself from marching robotically to Chiaroscuro's prison and demanding a cell with which to begin serving his (lengthy) sentence.
Chiaroscuro was no longer welcome ground for Akara, however, and he knew that it would only be hours until word of an Anathema in the city reached dangerous ears. Although he felt invincible, he knew he wasn't truly - and his family absolutely wasn't. He left the city immediately, eventually finding companionship in the Cult of Illuminated, an organization dedicated to serving, and facilitating the return to power of, the Solar Exalted. With a stipend afforded to him by the Cult in exchange for services rendered, Akara found slipping into his role as a Lawgiver to be relatively painless - especially after half a decade of education under the Cult's care. Creation, after all, is a relatively lawless place filled with Oathbreakers, corrupt bureaucrats, and those 'above' the laws they claim to serve. Spirits run rampant, ignoring the decrees of Heaven, and the common people suffer the consequences.
Appearance:
Akara is a dereth - a woman who has chosen to live as and identify as a man - and is rarely seen without the sash around his waist denoting this status. He is relatively short - not even five and a half feet tall - with dark, tanned skin common to the South and thick black hair typically styled into dreadlocks or loose braids. He's extraordinarily lithe and agile, with smooth and controlled motions to match a smooth and even temperament. It is rare for Akara to lose his cool, and he places control of self in both mind and form at a high premium. A student of the snake style of martial arts, when Akara fights, he tends to adopt a conservative and defensive stance, deflecting and mitigating blows coming his way rather than using hard strikes and blocks to defend himself.
Potential Plot Hooks:
-Akara is often quick to respond to conflicts between spirits and Gods in Creation, and is particularly adept at covering large swathes of ground using his basic knowledge of Sorcery.
-Although he projects absolute confidence in his abilities and station, Akara is still a relatively novice Lawgiver and has been known to make mistakes. Especially mistakes that could have been avoided were he a little more willing to 'play ball' and overlook minor crimes for the sake of resolving disputes.
-As a member in good standing of the Cult of Illuminated, one of Akara's primary duties is introducing himself to freshly Exalted Solars and providing education and direction. Given how quickly he can move across the world, this is a duty he's assigned often - as the Cult has access to Astrology that can point him in the direction of future Exaltations.
