Name: V'Neef Kerbim, formally Phun Kerbim
Age: 23
Exaltation/Caste: Wood Aspect Dragon Blood
Affiliations: The Realm, V'Neef Family
Bio:
Kerbim would be the first to tell you that his story is a boring one, most likely between tales of more interesting heroics others have accomplished, with an easy laugh to punctuate the matter and bring it to a close. The charming, soft-spoken only son of a renowned vintner upon the Blessed Isle, Kerbim's family was blessed with a charming boy who grew into a charming young man - who Exalted suddenly and mightily, displaying a potency of spirit and blood that made him an appealing acquisition for the young V'Neef house. He was brought into House V'neef not long after Exaltation, to properly see to his education and career among the Dragon Blooded of the Realm. An engaged and clever student without the spirit for prolonged battle, Kerbim would have made a promising candidate for the Heptagram. And as far as most know, that is exactly where he received his education. To assume anything else would be horribly rude, and to insinuate otherwise would be terribly impolite.
Although he was clever and charming, Kerbim was never the most clever or charming in the room - a fact he doesn't hesitate to point out cheerfully. He does have some measure of business skill, and enjoys the early inheritance of the Phun family's vineyard as the primary source of his wealth, but Kerbim's affluence is mostly due to luck. He happened to be born handsome and genial, was fortunate to Exalt as such a pure child of Sextes Jylis, and enjoyed the divine favor to be adopted into House V'Neef. His career as a man of the courts and businessman is similarly plagued by good fortune; deals just happen to work out in his favor, rivals suffer mostly harmless misfortunes that delay or inconvenience them from striking while the iron is hot, competitors have trouble keeping rats off of their ships and their vintages pure. Harmless troubles, a small financial setback here and there. Nobody's fault, and certainly not Kerbim's. He absolutely does not sabotage his enemies and rivals under cover of night and disguise, using the training that he certainly did not acquire in lieu of traditional Heptagram education. The very mention of such an accusation is startlingly rude and the mind quails to think of what degenerate would suggest such a thing.
As content as he is to cultivate his orchards and exchange pleasantries at court, Kerbim's general lack of solid ambition makes him somewhat hard for many of his contemporaries to take seriously. He's pretty and well-bred, but far from a threat. V'Neef or one of her children are likely to seek a match for him soon as a result, as he shows no real desire to do so on his own - her reluctance to marry her children to 'legionnaires' and the looming threat of Civil War are the primary reasons she has not done so yet. Kerbim is absolutely chuffed to bow to his adoptive House's wishes, as soon as such wishes take form. After all, he's well aware that he cannot spend his life engaging in idle pleasures, as he currently does, accomplishing nothing of consequence, ever, and harming nobody.
Appearance:
V'Neef Kerbim is a warm, personable young man with a smooth and soft voice that sounds like it would likely crack and break if he ever had to raise it above a conversational volume. He favors flowing, fine clothing that befits his wealth, and tends to keep towards the conservative side of fashionable. In court, he is a cheerful nexus of anecdotes and good-natured jokes that offend practically nobody - the very model of a gracious and jovial host at nearly all times, it is quite hard to catch him without a smile on his lips and a gift in his hands. A gift for you, of course! He's heard how you're accomplishing so very much these days, and would just love to express his admiration. Perhaps you'd be interested in coming by his manse sometime for wine and a spirited conversation? No obligation, he understands that you are busy and have other things to do. Of course, bring whomever you like!
Although he is generally graceful and smooth in his movements, Kerbim is sometimes prone to bouts of harmless clumsiness or forgetfulness. The former, he'd cheerfully explain, are the fault of so many sudden growth spurts as a teenager, or perhaps of a slightly more than prudent amount of libation at a party - not that Kerbim would ever be caught dead being drunk at a gathering, or even more than charmingly tipsy.
As a Wood Aspect of remarkable breeding, Kerbim carries the sign of his exaltation openly - his hair is brown only from a distance, but takes a greenish-red tint in direct sunlight or upon passing inspection. His fingernails are a similar shade of green with red veining and borders. Kerbim's skin takes a faint, greenish tint when he's gotten a great deal of sun, in lieu of tanning, and should he spend enough time in the sun to threaten a burn, hairthin lines of red will appear along his muscles and disappear around the joints. Although the fruity, cloying smell that he carries when he isn't powdered and perfumed for Courtly life might be mistaken as wine by a layman, the citrusy smell of aromatic sumac is a reminder to anyone who's grabbed a pretty red leaf only to suffer a wicked rash for days afterwards.
Potential Plot Hooks:
-Kerbim is absolutely not a member in good standing of any secret societies, and the very insinuation is silly. Put such absurd things out of your mind.
-Kerbim also does not use his Hearthstone to disguise himself as a woman and sabotage his enemies under cover of night like some latter-day Chevalier d'Eon. The very idea is just ridiculous, I do not know why I'm bothering to put it here.
-Kerbim produces amazing wine at his manse, which is virtually designed to host parties. You should stop by some time! We'd love to have you.
-Kerbim is a frequent sight around pleasant, aristrocratic parties. He's almost impossible to get rid of, but who'd want to keep out such a pleasant, pretty young man who brings plenty of good wine for everyone to enjoy together?
-Some busybodies might recall that there was, at some point, an elder Phun brother who would have been the logical inheritor of the family Manse and business. But no real record of the man exists outside of esoteric archives, and Kerbim is quick to mention that he's always been an only son - atop his rights as a Prince of the Earth to claim what always should have been his.
