Do you see what yours have wrought? Yours is a flame ill-suited to rule this land.
It seeks desperately for the warmth and light of those chosen by the Unconquered Sun.
In the shadow of His perfect glory, you are less than inadequate and these people suffer for it.
Kneel before me, and swear an oath to serve the Unconquered Sun, for He is the Light that shelters Creation.
Or you can oppose Him, foolishly. If you do, then mine is the hand that will shine judgement down upon you.
In the end, you will serve or you will die. Make peace with your Dragons and choose.
Name: Kajek
Exalted Name: Unconquered Shining Fist of the Eleventh Morning
Age: 48
Exaltation / Caste: Solar / Dawn
Affiliations: Chiaroscuro, Arbiters
Bio:
Chiaroscuro is a land that has long operated under its own rule, despite is nominal status as a satrap of the Realm. Outsiders do not always understand these rules, but they are nonetheless expected to follow them. Indeed much of the South operates on rules that others Those who cannot will be shown the error of their ways, violently if necessary. These Arbiters, warrior-priests of the Golden Lord, dispense mediation and justice across the South to native and foreigner alike.
Kajek was born to an Arbiter mother and a farmer father. He rarely saw much of his mother as she often traveled due to her work. His father raised the boy in the fields, teaching him how to cultivate life in the harsh sands of the South. However, such a simple life was not for Kajek. He worked tirelessly in the fields during the day and studied every scrap and tome he could at night about the Arbiters. His was a future of service.
By the time he was recognized as an adult, Kajek had gained a local reputation as promising Arbiter-to-be. He modeled his life on the acts and rules of his mother who had taken ill and was forced to retire early. As part of his intitation, Kajek gave his sight up to the Golden Lord, for justice is blind. It took some time for him to learn to navigate without his sight, but all Arbiters are gifted with improved senses for their sacrifice. Once he finished his lessons and was truly sworn in as an Arbiter, he shaved his head, took the symbol of the Golden Lord upon his brow, and began to travel along the South to dispense justice as was required.
As time went on, his reputation grew. Kajek held great value for life and always sought a way to end conflict peacefully if possible. When he was forced to resort to violence however, Kajek was a terror who meted out justice swiftly.
Paragon was a place where Arbiters were rarely ever required, and was a place that earned a sour temperment from Kajek whenever he had to visit. It was, by all accounts, a perfect land with virtually no crime. However, it was peace granted by the threat of a sword. He heard of the oaths that citizens and nobles were forced to swear to the Perfect. Even those who were not citizens were made to swear those oaths on occasion.
On one such visit to the city, Kajek was brought before the Perfect by an megalomaniac magistrate who was looking to advance his station. Normally Arbiters were free to go in and out of Paragon when duties required that they enter city. However, the magistrate attempted to levy charges against Kajek such as conspiracy to poison the city in a plot by the Arbiters to take over rulership. The Perfect leveled his scepter at the Arbiter and gave him an ultimatum; swear the oath or be executed.
Kajek had always served the law dutifully, but this was not justice. His disdain for the forced rule of the Perfect, the corruption and greed of the magistrates, and a deep-seated belief in justice erupted forth in a brilliant pillar of golden light that enveloped Kajek with warmth and glory. When the light subsided, a mortal no more was he. The brilliant sun burst of the Dawn caste burned brilliantly on his brow.
Though he knew his right to rule extended even to Paragon, Kajek knew that he was not in a condition yet to oppose the Perfect. Using their shock against them, he swore an oath against the Perfect and his magistrates; Paragon would be a truly free, peaceful city and the Perfect would be cast low for his arrogance. Before they could stop him, Kajek fled into the desert.
Led by a force he couldn't describe, Kajek found a small building in the ruins of Dari to the west of Paragon. Here he discovered a small tomb buried in the sands. Within it were tomes that described much, including the history of his First Age life.
In the years since his Exaltation, Kajek has continued traveling the sands of the South to deliver justice and mediation, always bearing in mind his oath to set Paragon free and seeking a way to make that dream a reality.
